Allowing your kids to cook by themselves is a great way to involve them in the kitchen and give them some life skills while boosting their confidence. It even helps the pickiest of eaters to try something new since they will be familiar with all the ingredients. So get your little ones into the kitchen and let them experiment with these three fun cooking activities.

Activity number 1: Preparing cold snacks

Great for after school, cold snacks such as hummus sandwiches are speedy and easy to make. It’s a super filling meal that your little ones can make by themselves. All they need to do is spread California Garden Hummus Tahina Dip over toast or pita bread and add their favorite veggies. It’s the perfect snack if they feel hungry after lunch and crave something to hold them until dinner.

Activity number 2: Preparing salads

Crunchy and colorful salads are a great way to get kids to eat vegetables. Let them make easy salads using few (and familiar) ingredients.

If they’re still too young, you can help them by preparing lettuce, tomatoes and cheese in a bowl, then let them add California Garden Whole Kernel Sweet Corn and the dressing before they mix everything.

If they’re a bit older, make sure you give them a safe knife and kids-friendly kitchen scissors so they can chop the vegetables by themselves.

Activity number 3: Preparing pizza from scratch

Making pizza is super easy and doesn’t necessarily require chopping. If your kids are craving pizza, they can make it by themselves, and all you need to do is bake it at the end!

Your little chefs can gather the dough ingredients, knead it and roll it. All they need to do next is top the dough with pizza sauce, California Garden sweet corn, and shredded cheese.

The final step is for you to bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

Remember: Always keep an eye on your kids when they’re cooking. They’ll still feel like they prepared the whole meal by themselves, and you’ll stay assured they’re safe!
