During Ramadan, the change in eating habits may cause health problems such as constipation. If you’re trying to prevent this issue during the holy month, here are three tips that can help you go through a smooth fasting period.

1. Eat more fruits and vegetables

Constipation may cause discomfort and feelings of bloating due to indigestion. This could be caused by overeating after fasting and not consuming enough fibers.

When you eat Iftar, make sure you increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. These foods contain high levels of vitamins and fibers to ease the digestion process. If possible, it’s advised to practice a light activity after Iftar, such as going for a walk.

2. Eat more legumes

Fasting for long periods increases the level of acids in the stomach, which could lead to constipation. To avoid such problems, make sure your Iftar or suhoor table includes appetizers like California Garden Peeled Fava Beans. Because they are light on the stomach, they leave you with a feeling of fullness without causing any kind of discomfort or pain.

3. Drink more water

Water helps your body hydrate without extra calories and sugars. Make sure you drink plenty of water between Iftar and suhoor. However, make sure you drink moderately and slowly so your body can stay hydrated and don’t lose the quantity of water that you drank quickly. Ramadan Kareem!
