A balanced diet and consistent exercising are two of the most important factors to achieve an overall healthy lifestyle. But the question is: should you eat before or after your workout? Keep reading to find out!

When it comes to eating before or after workouts, opinions are divided. Some people believe that working out must be done on an empty stomach while others prefer eating breakfast before exercising. The truth is, you should always eat something before working out in order to fuel your body because starving yourself can make you feel sick and actually do more harm than good to your metabolism.

In addition to that, your body needs energy in order to perform at high intensity. You won’t have the strength, stamina or speed to burn calories because you probably will be suffering from low blood sugar that will make you feel dizzy and light headed.

This said, you don’t need a heavy breakfast to get you through your workout; we suggest you eat a simple snack 45 minutes to an hour prior to training!

For example, you can savor a simple whole-wheat toast topped with 2 tablespoons of California Garden Fava Beans Lebanese recipe that is super light on the stomach and is easy to digest. The latter contains fava beans and chickpeas, both providing you with the necessary fibers (15% of dietary intake) and protein (9% of dietary intake) needed for a healthy and effective workout. Additionally, chickpeas contain healthy complex carbohydrates needed by your body to burn more fats without affecting muscle mass!

Bonus remark:

After your workout, you tend to lose some fluids. To compensate, make sure you drink enough water to keep your body hydrated and healthy!
